History


Founded in 1959 as the National University of Iran, Shahid Beheshti University has grown into one of the country’s leading public universities. Following the Islamic Revolution, the University was renamed Shahid Beheshti University in honor of Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti, a prominent scholar and one of the leading figures of the Revolution.


Over the decades, the University has expanded its academic programs, research institutes, and international partnerships while maintaining its commitment to excellence in education and research. Today, Shahid Beheshti University is home to numerous faculties, research centers, and a vibrant academic community, welcoming students and scholars from Iran and around the world.
